ABOUT ME

Storyteller

I’m Méguy. Mostly referred to as Me-Guy by the English speaking folks and Maggie by every single Congolese person that is not a member of my family. But I’m Meggie, Meg-ee! I am a 26-year-old woman. An aspiring author. Passionate about writing, reading, music, singing, travel, daydreaming (I put some time aside for that whenever I can! For real) and the natural high I get after watching a great movie. Welcome to TheContinentMusings! Here I wish to share my thoughts and engage with you on all things THE continent, as I join the line of Africans eager to tell our stories on the continent and Internationally! I hope to be the writer that gets you talking, exploring and imagining through the articles that I wish to share with you!

Adulting: The Un-Instagrammable_The job Interview part 1

If I may edit my original text, I would like to add my predominant thought in writing this series: fleeting time. For those who know, it is one of my biggest fears. Fleeting time, and perhaps scarier: the changes that come with fleeting time. Over the past year, t...

Like every city in the world, Abidjan has it's very own set of norms, values, culture and lifestyle that make it a unique environment.

My appreciation of living in Abidjan might be very romanticized as I am writing this from Montreal, where the everlasting winter is making me question many of my life choices. Beyond that,...

Let's be real, this was not easy!

The first challenge I faced was the complexity of the task assigned to me. The goal of my trip was to launch my company's operations in Abidjan. This project was our first expansion in francophone Africa, and its performance would be instrumental in setting up the expansion strategy for th...

February 2003. Côte d'Ivoire's political instability was getting out of hand and the population was deeply worried for its safety . "Pack your bags, you will finish the school year in Lome and live with your aunt" said my mother. This is how I left my home country and embarked on a nomadic journey.

After Lomé, came Douala...

As we prepared for our second day in the city, I silently worried in front of the mirror, as my cheeks seemed to have started to hug the bones on my face. What if I never stopped losing weight, until, soon enough, I started to look sickly and eventually died? I told you, the extremes in my head… they have no bounds! Start...

New York: The un-Instagramable – Part 3

I walked out of the Uber and the cold air greeted me on my way out. My dramatic self thought; “Is this how this lonely trip is going to feel too? Cold AF?”

 But God Fam! But God!

I walked into the hotel with my suitcases (home girl is extra, and for five days, my mom had to convince me...

So, as I was saying, cute guy from across the restaurant was my airplane neighbor, and I wanted to talk to him! He looked like he would make an amazing conversational partner for the ride. Yep, this is an introvert talking to you, so take my word for it, not a lot of people are worth the effort of conversation. Then again...

  • April 2019. Perhaps, just like in Eat, Pray, Love I needed the solo trip, the time alone, to reflect and mend my broken heart. I don’t know. To be quite honest I didn’t make it past 10 minutes of that movie, shit bored me to death!

  • May 2019. After deliberating with myself on whether or not to cancel this flight,...

We’re in Lome in the Togolese Republic, a city we had the pleasure of discovering in July 2017. Chez Brovi, the famous fish joint has become quite the familiar place. It’s my last professional mission for the year and Mamadi’s second to last mission. He came from Banjul, The Gambia and is going to Niamey, Niger next week...
